Hey, I’m Walkin’ Here!
You know, we thought driving was supposed to be a relaxing experience—a time for us to forget about everyday worries and hit the open road. But instead of our favorite songs, we're stuck behind someone driving like a chicken. Either that or we're forced to play telepath 'cause the guy in front of us won't signal. To make matters worse, that's just the beginning of common driving woes! Come with us as we blow off some steam and remind everyone about some unspoken road rules.
The Thank You Wave
The thank you wave is a longstanding common courtesy...at least, we thought it was. Sure enough, we have countless drivers cut in front of us or merge into our lane without so much as a smile. You don't need to roll out the red carpet after an act of kindness, but you should at least thank the other driver!
Flash for Speed Traps
Flashing headlights is often reserved for warnings, and that includes speed traps. While you shouldn't be speeding anyway, good drivers alert opposite lanes of incoming traps, allowing you a chance to slow down and avoid a ticket.
Don’t Be Nice, Be Predictable
As nice as it is to let someone pass, predictability is far safer on the road—and far kinder. Trust us, it's more important to follow the rules than break protocol and put everyone else in danger. It doesn't matter how "nice" you are either; if there's an accident, that excuse won't fly with the police (or someone's insurance company).
Don’t Tailgate
Don’t let others pressure you into tailgating. Even if they’re riding up your butt, keep a safe distance between you and the driver in front. Sure, that guy behind you won’t be happy, but tailgating is a leading cause of rear-end collisions and there’s no reason to adopt their terrible habits. Sorry, buddy, but you can go around.
Use Your Turn Signal
For some reason, this simple rule never took off. You know, the one we all learned about in driving school, the very one that lets drivers know where you're going? Nope, some drivers don't know what you're talking about! We hope you can read minds, otherwise you might just smack into these laissez-faire motorists.
Don’t Honk at Lights
Driving is all about patience. While we understand a polite honk if someone sits too long, we'll never grasp those who blare the horn as soon as the light goes green. It’s hard not to roll your eyes, and it's even harder not honk right back.
Stop the Rubbernecking
Good drivers slow down when there's an accident on the shoulder. Emergency workers are scattered all over the scene, sirens blast in your face, and the last thing you want is to exacerbate the trauma. Bad drivers, on the other hand, love to gawk at someone else's misfortune, clogging the road in the process.
Go With the Flow
Did you know that driving just 10 miles under the speed limit puts you at greater risk of an accident? In fact, driving under the limit is just as dangerous as flying down the road. Going with the flow of traffic prevents accidents and honking.
