These Machines Never Made It To The Dealership
Government fleets include a lot more than the tinted window sedans. Some vehicles protect world leaders, while others carry troops, recover tanks, move rockets, or inspect explosives from behind thick armor. Private collectors can sometimes buy retired military equipment after it’s been stripped, disabled, or demilitarized. Many of these machines also come with special armor, weapons, electronics, or communication systems that aren’t sold to regular buyers. These 20 government vehicles aren’t available to the public in their complete form.

1. Cadillac One, "The Beast"
The presidential limousine has familiar Cadillac styling, but you won’t find it in the brand’s online configurator. The current version arrived in 2018 with design details inspired by the CT6, while its custom construction and closely guarded security features were made specifically for presidential travel.

2. Suburban Shield
At first glance, this armored SUV looks a lot like a regular Suburban. It shares much of the standard model’s body, interior, propulsion system, and brakes, but underneath, it uses a unique body-on-frame chassis and suspension. Those changes help it carry added armor and handle the demands of protected diplomatic travel.
3. Next Generation Delivery Vehicle
The new postal delivery truck was built around the needs of letter carriers. It has a right-hand-drive layout, better visibility, comfortable seating, air conditioning, extra cargo room, 360-degree cameras, and collision-avoidance technology. Even its unusual shape is practical, giving drivers a clearer view while they make frequent stops along busy delivery routes.

4. Crawler-Transporter 2
Crawler-Transporter 2 weighs roughly six-and-a-half million pounds, and that’s before it picks up a rocket and mobile launcher. It can carry about 18 million pounds between an assembly building and a launch pad.
5. Emergency Egress MRAP
These white armored trucks stay near launch pads, so rescue crews can reach astronauts and ground workers during an emergency. They started life as mine-resistant military vehicles before being adapted for fast evacuation work. Their armor and off-road ability let crews enter dangerous areas and move people away when an ordinary emergency vehicle may not be able to do the job safely.
6. Infantry Squad Vehicle
This nine-passenger troop carrier borrows heavily from the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and uses about 90% commercial parts. Its lightweight frame allows it to travel inside or beneath military helicopters, but the Army’s working version isn’t sold through Chevrolet dealerships.
7. Joint Light Tactical Vehicle
The JLTV packs armor, off-road speed, useful carrying capacity, and a network-ready electrical system into a fairly compact military vehicle. Different versions can carry troops, cargo, communication equipment, or weapon systems.

8. M-ATV
The M-ATV was built to provide mine-resistant protection while still handling rough ground. Its protective hull, ballistic glass, blast-attenuating seats, tactical electronics, and ability to carry mission equipment make it a full military platform. Even before extra gear is added, its basic design is laser-focused for the battlefield.
9. Stryker A1
The Stryker A1 is an eight-wheeled armored vehicle with a 450-horsepower engine and a gross vehicle weight of up to 60,000 pounds. Its upgraded suspension, electrical output, digital systems, and flexible interior space support several jobs. Depending on the version, it can handle troop transport, command work, reconnaissance, medical duties, or weapons missions.

10. M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams
The M1A2 SEPv3 remains the current production version of the Abrams tank while a future generation is being developed. It comes with improved command-and-control systems, situational awareness, diagnostics, protection, and a fully working main gun. Retired tanks sometimes reach collectors after being demilitarized, but they don’t include the modern combat systems found in this version.

11. Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle
The AMPV replaces older tracked carriers with a modern vehicle that can keep up with armored formations. Its five versions cover general transport, command, mortar support, medical evacuation, and medical treatment. Compared with the vehicle it replaces, it offers much more interior room, power, protection, and mobility, giving crews a better-equipped space for several different battlefield jobs.
12. Bradley M2A4E1
The Bradley M2A4E1 builds on the modernized A4 fighting vehicle with a little more protection and better battlefield awareness. Its upgrades include an active protection system, an improved gunner’s sight, and more efficient air conditioning. It also keeps the Bradley’s troop-carrying ability and heavy weapons.
13. M109A7 Paladin
The M109A7 is a tracked, self-propelled 155 mm howitzer built to move and fight alongside armored units. It uses a modernized chassis, digital fire-control systems, increased onboard power, and better protection for its crew. Those features allow its four-person team to provide artillery support without having to tow a separate gun into place first.
14. M88A2 HERCULES
The HERCULES is built to recover a 70-ton combat vehicle when it gets stuck or breaks down. This tracked machine carries a 35-ton boom, a main winch with a 140,000-pound constant pull, armor protection, and the towing strength needed for battlefield recovery.
15. HEMTT A4
The eight-wheeled HEMTT A4 family takes care of some of the military’s hardest hauling jobs. Different versions carry fuel, ammunition, cargo, and recovery equipment, depending on what’s needed. A 500-horsepower diesel engine, heavy-duty suspension, an armor-ready cab, and several mission setups give it abilities that aren’t available in a regular commercial truck.

16. M1070A1 Heavy Equipment Transporter
The M1070A1 tractor and its special trailer are built to move Abrams tanks, self-propelled artillery, and other oversized military equipment. It has a 700-horsepower engine, twin 55,000-pound winches, and a roomy six-person cab.
17. M142 HIMARS
HIMARS puts a precision rocket and missile launcher on a mobile five-ton truck chassis. Depending on the mission, it can carry six guided rockets, two Precision Strike Missiles, or one ATACMS missile. The truck gives the system mobility, while its launcher, targeting equipment, communication systems, and ammunition make the complete vehicle unavailable to private owners.
18. Amphibious Combat Vehicle Command Variant
The ACV-C can travel from a ship to shore, keep moving across land, and serve as a protected mobile command center. Inside, it has several workstations, independent communication networks, situational-awareness tools, and space for future technology. Those features let commanders coordinate operations while they’re moving, without depending on a fixed headquarters nearby.

19. LAV-25
The amphibious LAV-25 combines the road speed of a wheeled vehicle with the firepower of a 25 mm chain gun. It can reach roughly 62 mph and supports reconnaissance and security missions. Its mix of speed, armor, amphibious ability, and mounted weaponry gives Marines a flexible combat vehicle.

20. Buffalo Mine-Protected Clearance Vehicle
The six-wheeled Buffalo lets route-clearance crews inspect suspected mines and roadside explosives without leaving its armored cabin. Its main feature is a remotely controlled hydraulic arm that reaches about 30 feet and carries a claw, digging tools, and a camera. That setup helps crews examine dangerous objects from farther away while staying protected inside the vehicle.
